Reflections
Transforming emotions & creating oneness within
A time of emotional upheaval is a time of learning and healing. When darkness is exposed, it has the potential to be integrated into light. There is never light without shadow. Often the darkness is not where we thought it was, and the time of emotional disturbance is an opportunity to see what we did not want to see, most importantly in ourselves. Instead of despair, a victim state, we can turn to the light within and take responsibility for ourselves, for our feelings and what we create in the world. How we see outside events is a reflection of our inner being. Seeing the outside world as a ‘disaster’, points to a temporary such state in ourselves. The world meanwhile goes on; life goes on and what we create within is very much up to us. The light within is outside of any perceived circumstances.
To start creating unity, we have to stop seeing people as ‘on the other side’, because there is no other side, other than in our minds. To create connectedness instead of separation, we need to see any others equal to us in their humanity, values, and wounds as well. No one’s suffering is bigger than anyone else, and we have no capacity to compare or judge ours versus theirs. If we want compassion from someone, we have to be able to give compassion to those people ourselves. We cannot declare someone as having severe short-comings, when we ourselves exhibit those same short-comings in disguise. We cannot demand others to accept our way of being if we have not respected and accepted theirs. We cannot keep judging others on account of our own pain, as we are no better (or worse) than they are. If we refuse to understand other people’s pain and perspectives, we become that which we actively dislike in those people.
To change ‘the state of the world’ we have to change ourselves, a lot. The changes in our individual consciousness affect the overall collective consciousness. We have to abandon false righteousness, and perceived victimhood, and turn to the light within. The heart is what has to lead, and so many of us are still stuck in the games of the mind. We have to turn to compassion and love towards ourselves and others (as we are able) and let that be a guide in our day-to-day life. Only then can we wake up from our human conditioning and realize that we are far greater than what we think.
